My role is to provide consulting and development services to external clients, particularly focusing on database reporting, in a customer facing capacity.

Hammonds Direct (Bradford, West Yorkshire)

November 2005 to August 2006

The UK’s leading provider of volume conveyancing to the financial and property sectors, Hammonds Direct contracted me to design new websites that provide their services direct to consumers. In addition to this design work I have been a driving force behind the streamlining of their codebase and improvement of development procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Requirements gathering and system architecture
  • Development of customer facing ASP.NET applications that integrate with SQL Server via XML Web Services.
  • Web interface design and implementation including the use of DHTML and Ajax
  • High level of input into database architecture and normalization
  • Creation of business objects in VB.NET to encapsulate data access and Web Service functionality

Best Western Hotels (GB) (York)

February 2005 to November 2005 (Contract)

The Great Britain division of Best Western International: the world’s largest hotel chain is a not for profit organisation providing services to independent member hotels.

As a contracted Software Developer I am extending an existing system for displaying invoices online to member hotels to create and display commission invoices to travel agents. Interfacing a SQL Server 2000 backend using CSLA business objects written in VB.NET and C#, the data is displayed using a web front end.

Converted and enhanced an existing VB6 windows application used to track IT support calls and system resources to a .NET, C#, WinForms application.
